The Secret of the Magic Gourd (2007) - 1 Movie

After listening to his grandmother's fairy tale about a gourd that can grant your every wish, restless schoolboy Wang Bo (Zhu Qilong) finds a magical gourd of his own in his dreams. The little walking gourd with dewy eyes dutifully gives Wang Bo everything he asks for, but this causes unexpected troubles for its excited owner. When Wang Bo wants to get in to a dinosaur movie at the theater, the gourd puts him into the movie. When Wang Bo wants free toys, the gourd brings him enough toys to fill his home. A mix of live-action and CG animation, Disney's first Chinese film The Magic Gourd comes with a pint-sized hero: a cute, bumbling wish-granting gourd. Based on a children's book by Tianyi, The Magic Gourd was jointly produced by Disney and special effects house Centro, which virtually put special effects on the map for Hong Kong with their work in Storm Riders, A Man Called Hero, and Kung Fu Hustle. Centro founder John Chu even helped co-direct the film with Frankie Chung. Following the tried-and-true arc of mischievous children, magical creatures, and gentle life lessons, The Magic Gourd is a well-meaning children's film that satisfies its target audience and amuses the adults who tag along. Hong Kong star Gigi Leung appears as a teacher, and Lau Ching Wan voices the gourd for the Cantonese version of The Magic Gourd.
