Morlum Summer (2005) - 4 DVDs

Araya’s mom is Thai and her dad is American and they live in New York. For the summer, they go back to Thailand to visit Araya’s grandmother, her mom’s mom, who is a morlum singer. Poh is a like a recording manager. I think he owns a recording studio too. He is dating the singer who he is writing songs for, Pream. He really is on love with her. On the day that Poh had to go to the airport to pick up his mom he saw Araya and her family. He was quite stunned when he saw her, but she gave no notice to him.

Araya didn’t really like her grandmother, but her grandmother totally loves her. I think it’s because they live in the slums/countryside or something like that. So she doesn’t want to go stay with them in the slums/countryside. Instead she wants to stay in the city and try to get a record deal. Her mom is not happy with her decision but does let her stay and gives her some money.

As the story goes on, Araya does sort of get with this record company and sing for them, but something happens and she is kicked out with no money. She had an encounter once with Poh at his studio and they got into a bit of an argument, so they dislike each other. Araya has no choice but to go to her parents in the slums/countryside .

At this point, I think, Poh’s girlfriend has left him for his competition. That guy had help Pream many times before; when her brother was arrested, and when her family needed some sort of financial help. So she decided to go sing for his record studio. Poh is deeply devastated and heartbroken. To make matters worse, his competition burned down his place, not his house, but I think his studio or office. So he has to start over and everything. He decides to go to the slums/countryside where his sister is residing and stay there for a while.

Araya is a bit disgusted with everything in the slums/countryside. All Araya does is walk around listening to rap on her walkman. Sometimes she’ll help out at her grandmother’s concert. One night after her grandmother’s concert, an accident happened and her grandmother couldn’t sing anymore, along with another singer. So they needed to find a new singer. They decided to use Araya since she could sing. At first, Araya was reluctant because they wanted her to sing morlum, but eventually she agreed to do it. Her grandmother and all her people trained Araya to sing morlum. And she became very good and it was time to perform. She was a bit nervous but did it. I think Poh was at her performance too and saw her.

Well, eventually Araya gets pretty famous and goes into the city to make a recording with Poh’s studio. I think at this point they’ve sort of develop feelings for one another. As for Pream, her life is pretty bad because Poh’s competition abuses her and her CD’s aren’t selling. A lot of obstacles and misunderstandings come between Poh and Araya like jealousy and stuff.

In the end, Araya and her family goes back to America. She is quite mad at Poh because they’re relationship was going strong and then Araya finds out that Pream is pregnant, and she misunderstands that the child is Poh’s. Poh goes after her, but he can’t find her, so he comes back heartbroken, only to find her already in Thailand. They get married and Pream ends up with Araya’s cousin.

What the class and the rest of the school does not know is that Yamaguchi Kumiko is actually the 4th generation heir to the Ooedo Group, a notorious yakuza clan. Even though her family would like her to take the title of Ojou when her grandfather dies, they have accepted the fact that Yamaguchi would rather be a teacher.

Eventually, the students learn to respect their quirky teacher because of her devotion to them, and even give her a nickname: Yankumi.
