Yi San dramatizes the life of Korea's King Jeongjo, the 22nd ruler of the Joseon Dynasty. Jeongjo is remembered in Korean history for his sympathy with the plight of the common man, in spite of his own pampered upbringing as royalty.
The drama begins with the King's early years, during which he befriends two children working in the Palace who are later expelled. King Yeongjo (Jeongjo's grandfather) seals Jeongjo's father, Crown Prince Sado, in a rice storage chest with no food or water because he fears that the crown prince is planning a coup. Jeongjo wants to save his father, and with the help of his friends Song Yeon and Dae Su, begs Yeongjo to forgive the Crown Prince. The drama then skips forward to Jeongjo's adult years when he and his friends re-establish contact with each other. Throughout, Jeongjo's position as Crown Prince is threatened by palace intrigues.
While still the Crown Prince, Jeongjo begins to fall in love with one of his childhood friends, Sung Song Yeon, whose father, a palace artist, died when she was very young. The story then follows Yi San's rise to power, his assumption of the kingship, and the labyrinthine palace intrigues that he must constantly guard against. While the show does deviate from the historical record in a number of ways, its representation of court life during the Joseon Dynasty appears to be based on contemporary sources.

GTV's "Love Buffet" stopped filming due to the 88 Typhoon, it was previously estimated to resume filming in March, but right before filming, there's rumor saying that the film crew plans to switch the female lead Qiao Qiao, all previously filmed scenes must be re-filmed, the cost will be big.
After GTV's "Down with Love", "Love Buffet" was suppose to follow right after, but now there's rumor of switching the female lead Qiao Qiao, making the drama schedule change.
"Love Buffet" cast Calvin Chen, Joanne Zeng, Aaron Yan experienced one crisis after another, since filming began, there was the 88 typhoon, due to the severe damage done to the original main filming scenes at Maolin International Park, the drama has to stop filming, switch scenes, and make great shifts to the cast's schedule, the producer Wang Xin Gui lost an estimate of 2,000,000 NTD.
After the big hassle of returning to film, there's rumor that GTV is having problems with the revised film script and the cast roles, there's also rumor that they find the female lead Qiao Qiao's age is not young enough with her appearance looking much more mature than the two male leads, making the film crew to consider switching roles. (they are so mean...cuz Qiao Qiao's actual age is 20...much younger than Aaron & Calvin in real life)
Also, Qiao Qiao and Calvin are also rumored to have chemistry, could this be the reason to switch roles? GTV denies this saying.
Promotional representative Cai Fei Qiao states, the production team has already confirmed of switching the female lead, but the main reason is because Qiao Qiao's schedule cannot fit with the filming. GTV explains, so far there's no confirmed choice, and will try to find the right person once the script has been revised.
